Half the world's tantalum is mined in one country.

USGS estimates for 2025 put the DR Congo at 1,300 of about 2,500 tons. Here is where tantalum is mined, and where concentrate is turned into metal for capacitors and chips.

Sources and method

Country output is from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026, a public-domain U.S. government source (estimates for 2025). Country figures show where material was reported, not always where it was mined: tantalum from eastern DRC is often exported through neighbouring countries.

Processing plants are taken from the U.S. International Trade Administration's list of identified global consumers of tantalum concentrates (October 2022), also a public-domain U.S. government source. Ownership and operations may have changed since. Mines are well-known producing areas drawn from public sources; locations marked approximate are shown at district, region or city level.

What this map does not show. It does not trace material from any mine to any plant. Showing a mine, a plant or a company does not mean that company sources from any site on this map, and it says nothing about any company's certification, compliance or conduct.
